Exactly 15 years after commissioning its first logistics center, Galliker is expanding its capacity in southern Switzerland by around 13,279 m² in response to the continuously increasing demand for specialized logistics space along the strategically important north-south axis.
the new building was designed as a multifunctional logistics center that offers flexible conditions for a wide range of customer requirements and product groups. Two floors are available for the storage of goods in the ambient, fresh and frigo temperature ranges. Goods are handled efficiently via 24 loading bays on the first floor, while two high-performance goods lifts and two pallet elevators ensure a smooth flow of materials across all floors. In addition to the first-class storage and handling areas, the building offers modern office space, social rooms and an inviting lounge.
behind the façade of the logistics center is a state-of-the-art energy system that is fully in line with the "Green Logistics by Galliker" strategy. Among other things, energy is supplied by a photovoltaic system on the roof with an output of 1.17 MWp and by using groundwater for heating and cooling processes.
Together with the existing Logistics Center 1, the S. Antonino site is growing into a comprehensive "Net Zero" system. This includes a medium-voltage site grid, two photovoltaic systems with an annual electricity production of over 2 GWh, a large battery storage system and e-charging infrastructure with 53 charging points in future. In this way, renewable energy, electricity storage, intelligent control and sustainable mobility will be efficiently combined across the entire site. This means that 100% of the electricity produced by the PV systems can be used directly on site for the management of the buildings or emission-free transportation.
The expanded charging infrastructure enables the supply of the already more than 50% electrified truck fleet at the S. Antonino site as well as the efficient integration of electric trucks in cross-border traffic between Italy and Switzerland. In combination with the existing rail connection, Galliker is making the supply chain particularly sustainable. In addition to the ecological perspective, rail offers a decisive safety advantage over road transport through the Gotthard tunnel, especially when transporting sensitive goods such as hazardous goods.
Through this targeted expansion, the family-owned company Galliker is strengthening its presence in Ticino and sending a clear signal for innovation and sustainability along the Gotthard route. At the same time, new jobs and additional training and development opportunities are being created in the region.
The opening in S. Antonino is therefore another important milestone in the company's history and underlines the consistent expansion of modern, efficient and forward-looking logistics solutions.
